Vinnie Langdon - Local Music Scene
Written by Gary Ricker, Vacaville Magazine
Hello Vacaville! It’s summer now and have we got a hot one for you! One of our local success stories is only 19
years old and just in the past five years since the age of 14, has became quite the celebrity. Vinnie Langdon
has the hottest local TV show in Vacaville and all of Sacramento County. The Vinnie Langdon Show can be seen
each week on Vacaville Access Channel 27 with a new band interview, performance and community events or
community role model per episode.
I sat down with Vinnie at Pure Grain Bakery in Downtown Vacaville to talk about his beginnings and success and
even I was shocked at everything he has done since he stated. I have known Vinnie since before he was a
teenager and never would have thought the shy child would become the outgoing TV producer, writer, editor,
and actor he turned into. Now this is the Local Music Scene section of the magazine and Vinnie is not a
musician, but he has done more for the music scene locally than any other professional around.
Let’s start from the beginning. Vinnie, at the age of 14, decided he needed to do something with his life but
was sure he didn’t want a job...don’t we all wish! With his parent’s influence of volunteer work and a chance
viewing the local access channel 27, Vinnie was intrigued. Vinnie saw a person on TV that he knew and thought
to himself, “If he can be on TV, then so can I”. Vinnie went to the local TV studio and signed up for volunteer
work. He volunteered for six months learning the ins and outs of making things ready for T.V. Finally, with a
little help from family and a TV producer named Ken Hardy, Vinnie started his own show called The Vinnie
Langdon Show. He started with people he knew, like Vacaville Mayor Len Augustine. Then being introduced to
city council members and so on. Vinnie wanted to get in the music so he started with local bands, interviewing
and filming their performances. Then Vinnie needed to edit all of the footage he had, that’s where Ken Hardy
came in. Ken helped Vinnie editing until he learned how to do it on his own after his first six episodes. He didn’t
expect though for people to actually watch the show. Before he knew it, he was being recognized all over
Vacaville. Shortly after, Vinnie began writing scripts and skits.
Now when it comes to music, Vinnie didn’t have a clue. He started contacting local bands, interviewing and
recording performances. After a while, he got a little braver and started contacting record labels. In Vinnie’s
description to me, he started contacting household label names calling for interviews with bands like Bon Jovi.
Of course, after being shutdown for not having money to pay for interviews, Vinnie started contacting smaller
independent record labels. He started going to local venues in Orangevale and Roseville...there are no all age
music venues in Vacaville. After many episodes featuring many local and touring independent bands, Vinnie was
in contact with Earshot Media. They were impressed with Vinnie’s work on the web. Vinnie, through Earshot
Media gained access backstage and interview with a band called Thrice, the headliner at the 2006 Rockstar
Energy Drink: Taste of Chaos Tour at its stop in Sacramento’s Arco Arena. The Taste of Chaos Tour appeared
to be Vinnie’s breaking point to a bigger musical journey for The Vinnie Langdon Show. After receiving the
video footage from Vinnie, Earshot Media asked him to cover the entire Vans Warped Tour in three Northern
California cities in 2006, which is the nations biggest and longest running tour with hundreds of bands. In
2007, Vinnie received an email from Earshot Media asking him to interview and have a live performance of a
band on his show called The Plain White T’s. The Plain White T’s were about to release a single from their first
nationwide album Hey There Delilah. A week after Vinnie aired The Plain White T’s, they appeared on MTV with
their new hit song, “Hey There Delilah.” This also recognized The Vinnie Langdon Show for putting out new
famous artists FIRST. Since then, it’s been a roller coaster of a ride for Vinnie having record labels and artists
coming to him for his famous show broadcasting on local TV and the internet worldwide. By summer 2007,
Vinnie aired 150 episodes, now three years at the Vans Warped Tour and the Taste of Chaos Tour, Vinnie is
setup backstage with a trailer having bands come to him for interviews. At the 2008 Vans Warped Tour, Vinnie
had the opportunity to interview a lot of bands and had to choose between them due to the limited amount of
time. He turned down an artist he never heard of to interview bands like Thursday, Story of The Year and the
owner of Vans Warped Tour Kevin Lyman. Later, Vinnie found out that one of the artists he missed out on
that he thought wasn’t quite important to interview was turned out to be a singer named Katy Perry. She was
turning up every major radio station and music television with multiple hits such as “I Kissed a Girl” and “Hot ‘N
Cold.” There are many bands he has been able to interview that he jumped into the limelight, like the Jonas
Brothers (who wanted his autograph first at the time) and many more.
Due to a move to Sacramento in the summer of 2007, TV Producer Ken Hardy got Vinnie intro Sacramento
County local television where he now airs his show and is very popular.
One big band named Powerman 5000 called Vinnie at the last minute and needed a video shot for a commercial,
which he pulled off and it ended up on MTV. Since then MTV has contacted Vinnie for his help as a crew
member in filming a reality show but he turned it down to continue with his own show.
Although music has proven to be very good for Vinnie and The Vinnie Langdon Show, acting is Vinnie’s
passion. Vinnie grew up putting on skits and entertaining his family. In High School, Vinnie acted, produced,
wrote, directed, and edited skits, and short films that premiered at the Brendan Theatres. In 2006, Vinnie’s
short “PERMISSION” won Best Picture at the Buckingham International Film Festival and won a trip to Las
Vegas, Nevada for the CineVegas Film Festival which landed him on the red carpet and on the cable TV channel
ET-Entertainment Tonight. It also allowed him to meet movie stars like Christina Ricci, Dennis Hopper, and Artie
Lange from the Howard Stern Radio Show. With Vinnie’s Popularity in local short films he also landed acting in
local Bay Area commercials on Comcast cable for a pizza restaurant and for Rock Star Energy Drink.
After returning from Las Vegas, Vinnie starred in a low budget feature film called The Green Room where Vinnie
played a character named Jamie, a teenager that liked a girl that had a boyfriend. For more information on the
movie it is available at the Vacaville Public Library. This summer Vinnie will be filming another feature film that he
will write, produce, and act in to be released the fall of 2009 at the Brendan Theatre.
Vinnie is currently teaching at Country High School for adult education. He is teaching filming and acting
classes. Vinnie’s long time goal is to pursue acting as a career which is his true passion. Vinnie has been lucky
enough to receive acting advice from agents that worked for Disney Stars like Hilary Duff and Raven Symone.
